Today I am going to present my review of the recent Georgia
Highlands drama presentation “Flash into Highlands.” For starters I would like
to express my great respect and appreciation to those who performed, produced,
directed, filmed, also any others who had a hand in bringing this wonderful
display of the arts to our campus in Cartersville, Georgia. Unfortunately I
only caught the last act. But was thoroughly impressed with what I saw. It was
about a woman whose husband was having an affair. He was killed by a lightning
bolt, as was their puppy. The woman decides to go to an extreme and have the
dog stuffed by a taxidermist to hold onto some semblance of her husbands’
memory. She is completely in the dark about her husbands’ misdoings with his
mistress. While in the process of waiting for her dog she meets a lovable old
stuffed deer head named Marvin. Marvin was by far the most interesting
character in the play. Marvin had a deep southern sound to his voice, which
immediately made you feel like you were talking to an old friendly man whose’
trust is unquestionable. That plays largely into the main characters world and
self view of her life. The dog or puppy on the other hand is obscenely rude,
obnoxious, self centered, and overall a dislikable character. The audience
never has a chance to meet the husband unfortunately but discovers thru the
stuffed dog about his affair with his “professional” golf instructor and other
women. The dog is quite entertained by the affairs and the wife’s reaction to
learning this terrible news. This was a huge part of the comedy in this play
which was unfortunate since I could see potential for much more comedic relief
in it than there actually was. Marvin presented his own form of comedic relief
most due to the monotone sound of the actor presenting his voice. As a
spectator, critic, and general film buff I think this play had room for much
improvement. The actors were not convincing in any capacity, and the set was
poorly set up. I tried to have an open mind going in but it’s hard in the
beginning when you can see there wasn’t much if any real effort to have an
organized set. After speaking with other spectators I found I was not the only
one who felt this way. Most of the people I spoke with also had comment’s on
the actors performance. I was impressed by their remembrance of lines and their
ability to not stumble over their words. But on the downside they had no real
emotions. This was extremely disappointing especially since the main character
had been having an affair on her for a long period of time. Also that her
husband never loved or even cared about her, he only married her for her money
and status. I can’t imagine any woman at all not being thoroughly upset by
learning this news. Overall the idea for the play was sound and well scripted
by the producer but fell short on presentation and acting. I would give it a
two out of five for my professional rating. Better luck next year actors.

Crazy poem
To kiss the blue moon
is tough
Don’t surprise the
wavering clouds, they burn.
It’s important to
bite the frog
But don’t swing on
the red dog
Tough mud says “I’m
sharp”
Eye ruined the
leather clouds
To say rocks soft is
tough
Throat bites hot red
stuff
Important slag hides
nowhere
Eye says bite the
toughest soft leather
Cloud bruised cool
blue
Leather red frog
smiles

Review of English 1102
Reviewing English composition 1102 could be one of the
hardest classes I’ve ever had to give a critical review of. Most classes I
either love or hate and there are a few that are kinda in the middle that I
just tolerate. This english class has had its up and downs, I’ve hated days and
loved days. On the brighter side of things I don’t hate it enough to try skipping
like I would some classes. I almost look forward to it some days. I’ll start by
listing the things I’ve enjoyed about this class. My favorite thing by far is
the back and forth discusions we have had. Everyone has there own opinion but
for the most part share their opinions in a respectful way. That makes for
great conversations and it really turns into a domino effect in class, one
discussion leads to better questions for the next discussion. Another thing I
like on that same line is how Mrs. Lindberg doesn’t mind to cuss a little bit.
It sounds childish but it makes her much more approachable and really gives a
much more relaxed feeling to the class. More of the things I like are the
constant constancy in her grading. That’s always a really big plus for any
class your in when you know what your teacher always expect from you. Now a few
of the things I don’t like. I don’t like how strict Mrs. Lindberg is on the
grading! Even with concrete proof that the assignment was done on time she
still wont accept it. I went along with that thinking that I would be able to
use the ones that got zeros for that reason at the end of the semester to make up
for the zeros but no that didn’t happen like she said so I’m very upset about
that. But she did give us the opportunity to make up a few things which is
nice. My favorite thing this semester is how Mrs. Lindberg reviewed my poem and
gave me a good opinion of how to make it better. Overall I enjoyed english 1102
and would refer Mrs. Lindberg to my friends.

Unnamed library activity
It has been a week since the speeches were given in the library to celebrate woman's equality. Since then I have spoke with many people and gotten a lot of different points of views. Most of them are who really gives a shit? And a majority of those opinions came from women. I really believe this is an outdated cause brought around by uptight feministic liberals who can't think of a better cause to focus their frustrations on. My opinion has gotten me into some heated discussions with others who can't comprehend anything beyond their own very limited world views. This is much sadder to me than anything else so far because it shows a complete lack of intelligence that they can't or won't try to see other points of views only because they don't like what they hear. I believe if these women who are stuck on equal rights would square themselves away and focus on something productive they might actually get something done for a change. Why not the march of dimes? Or the deconstruction of Planned Parenthood? These things directly affect these women yet they have no interest in them what so ever. It's just sad to see and speak with these people on any level. Especially since flat stupidity is one of my biggest pet peeves. I recognize that there are still inequality in some ways going on today but if these women really want to change that why are none of them running for government office? Wouldn't' that make a bigger difference than standing up and shaking your fists at people? I know for a fact that it would because just listening to some of these woman are extremely off putting to anyone even other women. I still hold the belief that women don't want to be treated equal they want to be treated like women with the pay and recognition of a man. If you really want to be equal then act that way. Try acting like a man sometimes then you can be equal. Try laughing at joke about a blonde instead of running off to Human Resources to complain. Try just taking your speeding ticket instead of flirting and showing off some cleavage for the cop. Until women act truly equal they never really will be and because women won't want to give up the power and privilege that they know they have over men this will never happen. Women have more power than any man will ever achieve that's because of a very simple thing called nature. Men are slaves to their primal desires and women abuse this on a daily basis. This is my very personal opinion of equality among the sexs.
GDR poem
Blackness recedes to leave a glowing angel on me
Light frames her body likes it emanating from her core
I don’t remember the fall or the crash or the pain
But surely this must be heaven to have a creature such as
her
Silky blonde hair falls about her shoulders, green eyes
pierce into my soul
Yet she holds no malevolence or ill intention for me
Instead only pure love and heat flow from her
Surely this must be heaven to have a being such as her
At last she speaks and a thousand songs burst from her
All that is beautiful in the world merges to form her words
My fate my soul all that I am is tied to what she says
And surely this must be heaven to have individual such as
her
Her song forms to utter three simple words
I love you is all that she needs to say
At that moment I know that indeed I am in heaven
I must be a god because no man deserves such an angel as
her.
